No, the original song was sung by Nimal Mendis for the sinhala film Kaludiya Dahara, in the 70's. Neela Wickremasinghe sang a revised version of it in the 80's .

This is a really super song. It is very nostalgic listening to this song after a long time. I used to listen to this song when it was being played pratically every day by the SLBC. Those were the good ole days in Sri Lanka.
