The Safety Girls -- Conception to Present 2010

The Safety Girls Organization began in 2007 with an idea and a dream. It has to do with empowerment and education - to empower a child to be prepared and not scared and to educate a child to make smart choices. There are so many tragedies that befall children today mainly because of lack of knowledge. If only they could be given some safety "tools" to use, then most of these tragedies could be avoided. Children learn through repetition. A "catchy" tune will linger in their minds and be more effective than just verbal communication.

Founder, Jacquie Sullivan, decided to create a group of singers to perform songs teaching safety. They teach child safety through music and entertainment. Thus began the Safety Girls vocal group. The songs are designed to be educational, but at the same time entertaining, for both children and adults.

Jacquie's background is in composing and singing jingles such as Budweiser Beer, Dominos Pizza, Ford, Toyota, and many others. She thought that it would be good to write "jingles" to teach about safety topics. She started with the theme song, "Stand Up for Safety!" She was teaching Pop Performance at Citrus College at the time so she took her most talented vocal students to record the first few songs.

The sound is derived from a combination of Rap, R & B, Rock, and Pop music emerging from today's popular artists. Music can convey a message in an entertaining and fun way, and, if it's catchy, it will be memorable. Kids need to know about the basics of safety like calling 911, what to do in case of a fire, electricity precautions; using seatbelts, and stranger awareness. These can be very dry topics, but if they are presented in a creative way, kids will listen. The Safety Girls want kids to become aware of safety measures. What better way than through song?

Auditions were held and Jacquie found four young ladies to record the first CD entitled "Stand Up for Safety!" The Pasadena Police Department, the Fire Department and the Department of Water and Power generously gave much information so that the lyrics of the songs could be based on fact.

Amber, Nikki, and Essence are the Safety Girls. They are multi-talented young ladies who have the desire to help children. Because of the success of their first album, the group is in the studio recording their second. It will include topics such as cyber bullying, healthy eating, what it is to be a hero, and drugs and alcohol, to name a few. With the fresh sound of *TSG* (the nickname the growing number of fans are giving them in their E-messages), the Safety Girls are helping children all over the world. They enjoy the best of both worlds with singing and teaching kids about safety. Together, the girls have created a new and unique "Safety Girls" sound.

The Safety Girls perform at many community events for the fire dept., police dept. and city events such as Make Music Pasadena, Levitt Pavilion, the LA County Fair, Kidspace Museum, Rowland Heights Chinese Association, Madison Elementary, Daniel Webster Elementary, Bethany Christian School, Pasadena Mayor's Christmas Luncheon, Treasure Little Children, and Kids Are 1st, to name a few.
