Eldar Mansurov - "Bəhramnamə". Respublika sarayından canlı konsert (1 dekabr 2005-ci il).
The Bahramnameh Project
It is said that the West and the East never come across each other. However, sometimes unexpected events take place in life full of miracles. One of these is the "Bahramnameh" project. Why is this project called "Bahramname"? Bahram Mansurov is one of the bright personalities in the Azerbaijani history of music culture, skilled performer and connoisseur of mugams, venerable tar player, who introduced the Azerbaijani mugams for the first time in UNESCO. His performances significantly differed from the others'. The virtuoso has left behind a rich heritage after himself. His son, composer Eldar Mansurov aimed to immortalize this heritage and convey it in modern style to future generations. Thus, a new genre was established. The voice of the East sounds in the synthesis combined by the Western vocal. There is only beauty in the "Bahramname" world -- the beauty of spirit, senses, and divine creature. Perhaps we go back to the past while listening to "Bahramname", perhaps we see the future. Eldar Mansurov's composer godsend for "Bahramnameh" project was the idea to use the original performance of his father -- Bahram Mansurov -- in each of the arrangements. Thus, all compositions alternate Eldar Mansurov's music with pieces of mugam performed by B. Mansurov on tar, creating a dialogue between the father and the son. The connection of generations is sensed in the whole composition. Having listened to the complete composition, one may claim that both the mugam performed by Bahram Mansurov and the music by Eldar Mansurov is hardly a synthesis because it sounds as a unique composition. Both mugam and rock genre beautifully, persuasively and laconically complement each other in "Bahramnameh". One may argue that due to the successful synthesis and performance, "Bahramnameh" became the most popular project of the past years. The same principle is applied in the vocal-instrumental (singing and playing) version of "Bahramnameh", where vocal performers are pop singer Manana and khananda (performer of mugam) Elbrus. Both performers perfectly complement each other despite the distinctive genres. Bahram Mansurov's younger son Elkhan performed a batch for tar on the concert of "Bahramname" project in 2005. His performance completely preserved the style and manner of his father. During several compositions, he performed mugam pieces in a distinct manner inherent to him and slightly different from his father's. For example, in "Shur" composition Elkhan completely preserved his father's classic style. However at the same time, one may notice strict distinction of the mugam melody interpretation, if carefully listened to the performance of both performers. The same distinctions are also present in other compositions, such as "Chakhargah", "Bayati-kurd", and "Shushter". Among the brightest compositions of this project are "Bayati-Shiraz" and "Segakh", which may be called the pearls of Azerbaijani mugam. These mugams perfectly synthesize with rock music and the performances of tar players are wonderful in both compositions. The most interesting aspect of "Bahramnameh" project is that the performance on tar should be done exclusively in the manner of Mansurov.
