About Me:
I have a great love for Monty Python, The Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, well-written novels, deliciously large words, and respectful opinions.
I am a deeply spiritual person by nature - used to be LDS ("Mormon") and still occasionally go to church, but I've been having serious second thoughts about it for a long time now - it can be a great church in some ways, and it makes a lot of people happy, which is fine. But too many of my deeply fundamental personal beliefs clash with some of the teachings of the church, among other things, and I finally just got too uncomfortable with the disparity. I grew up in the church my whole life, and I haven't asked to have my name removed or anything, but I don't technically consider myself Mormon anymore, more like "has-been Mormon" or, to use the apparent slang, "Jack Mormon" (...Jill Mormon, since I'm female?).
I'm something of an amateur Disney film buff, so I frequently make comments on Disney clips, in particular clips from Disney Renaissance films (my favorite era, since it was the one I grew up in - literally. I was born in '87; the Renaissance began in '89 with The Little Mermaid when I was two, and ended in '99 with Tarzan when I was twelve. So those films carry a TON of nostalgia for me).
Country:
United States
Occupation:
Mom, feminist (the type that has the radical notion that women are people, and that the important thing is the opportunities and choices available to women, not the choices that they ultimately make - although those choices need to be informed ones and not influenced by anyone else's expectations). I'm also an artist plunging into the world of graphic design. Getting my Associate's degree soon and I'm pretty damn happy about it.
Schools:
BYU-Idaho (2006-2007)
Stevens-Henager (2011-present)
Interests:
Fanfiction and fiction, art and music, film, poetry, lactivism.
Movies:
Far too many to list here without feeling as though I left something out. Maybe I'll try to list 'em someday when I feel up to it.
Music:
Favorite modern composers include Danny Elfman, Klaus Badelt, and Philip Glass. Favorite singers include Amy Lee, Johnny Cash, Norah Jones, Vanessa Carlton, and Weird Al, among many others. Favorite bands are too many to list here.Am also a great lover of the classicals/romantics (Liszt, Beethoven, Mozart, etc.), particularly those involving piano or opera.
Books:
Most things by Anne Rice (Her writing style is utterly intoxicating, and her characters are refreshingly fascinating and irresistible, despite--or maybe because of--their penchant for unorthodoxy). I also love the young-adult novels of Brian Jacques, Lois Lowry, and Louis Sachar. And I very much love the works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, among others. There are a great many authors, both obscure and unobscure, who are tremendous favorites of mine and are (again, alas) too many to list here.
