Having no breaks in this quartet would make it a challenge to perform. Usually the performers have the break to change music around with in the quartet, but this I would think that the performers would have to memorize the majority of it!!! As my composition teacher explains it, Slendro also refers to the just intonation tuning, which Lou Harrison was fascinated with, and is how the gamelan is tuned. The violinist has to compensate because it is an equal temperament instrument.

I just saw this performed the other day by third angle new music ensemble in Portland, and it is about an hour long and is amazing!!! The performers dance and move and it'd all written in the score!!! Far out!!!
