@HBsongwriter: it was Long John Baldry who reportedly saved Elton. LJB was openly gay back in the 60's when he was having hits (and it was still illegal in England) & Elton was his pianist...he is credited with helping Elton work out his sexuality

Great song & Bernie was the "cowboy" writing the lyrics....not Elton also they were English, and only new of Roy & Gene from saturday morning cinema....so go easy Bretthejet.just enjoy it for what it is, a well crafted song with a great arrangement.
