Fleisher was one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. Period. He lost his right hand, not his left, to an ailment which is not well understood. Perhaps this piece does not sing to you, but it does to me.
This performance does not touch the Fleisher/Szell recording. Strong playing but bad pacing and the opening horns sound like kazoos. Richter was much better in solo repertoire. Still a good performance, and Richter's strength shows through.
@FISTRIG It is certainly a stunning and unusual performance. I love it also, but at the same time, it does not have the grandeur of the Fleisher/Szell. I do treasure it though. Music is not absolute, many performances are superb and to be enjoyed.
