When I was six weeks old, I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. CF is a lung disease that is currently incurable. The disease itself cause the lungs to secrete a sticky mucus that grows germs and bacteria that make patients sick. I got along all right for a while.
In summer 2004, I was diagnosed with asthma, as well. It wasn't as big of a deal because of the CF and my mom had it too so she understands.
Then my family and I moved to Texas in December 2004, after my dad lost his job.
In September 2005, I started private school where I made a lot of my current friends.
But then in August 2008, we moved again. Though we were still instate, it was still far enough away I couldn't see my friends often.
While my parents and sister moved int our new house I was admitted to the hospital to have surgery. Two actually. I had a sinus surgery and a gastrostomy button, or G-button placed because I was severely underweight. I was 65 pounds at 13 years old.
After being discharged from the hospital, I went to public school for the first time in three years. It was incredibly daunting. The first half of the year was pretty good. The second half of the year was better.
In summer 2009, I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes (CFRD). Part of the side effects of CF itself is that it causes some other organs like the pancreas to slow down or even shut down completely. The pancreas produces insulin, which helps breakdown sugar in your blood and food. My pancreas wasn't functioning right anymore. It still produced some insulin but not enough to keep me healthy.
After attending a class that early August to learn how to take care of myself, I developed a problem with my stomach that made me miss the first week of high school. Though I struggled through the first six weeks to try and catch up, I got sicker and sicker. Finally in early October, I was pulled out of freshman year to try and recover myself in homeschooling. It didn't work out. In January I tried to start in high school again but again, I couldn't make it.
Currently, I am enrolled in the sophomore class at my school. I am doing pretty well, still chugging along. I have finished all the finals from last year so I'm free from that catastrophe :3 Thank you for sticking around so long! I GUARANTEE that I will be working uber hard on Warriors now!
