In 2004, South Georgia Polytechnic College opened its doors to graduate film students for the first time. Traditionally a tech-prep school, the motion pictures program was unprecedented, and attracted an eccentric mix of students in its inaugural year.
Thesis Film follows those 12 pioneers as they progress through their second and final year. Through a combination of live-action video and poignant interviews, the students share their encounters in the classroom, in the field, and behind the camera. As they learn the fundamentals of filmmaking, their experiences are sometimes peculiar, sometimes somber, but never boring. Culminating in an end-of-the-year festival, Thesis Film joins the students for their roller-coaster introduction to the world of independent cinema.
