DRIVING VIOLATIONS OBSERVATIONS

Introduction
------------
Thanks for watching my videos. I installed this on board video after a crash that occurred when a lady pulled from the 2nd lane right in front of me to turn in to her driveway. She then denied doing this after the crash. I notice that about people. Their willing to lie to try to get out of paying for their mistakes. It even happened a 2nd time but once he found out I had on board video he paid up. After all, video is proof

I'm also tired with people behaving badly on the roads and playing games. I don't know why people can't just drive with some common sense & courtesy. I'm amazed at the impatience and the "I'm first, get out of my way" attitude. Letting 1 car in costs you 2 seconds at the very most. Usually that car ends up turning off somewhere anyway and you get your 2 seconds back. Does it really achieve anything going out of your way to cut that vehicle off ? As I saw a sign on the freeway the other day "Driving is not a game"

I tend to moderate my comments because every blue moon someone with an attitude problem seems to like writing abusive or seriously negative comments. Usually I find they do this to everyone because when I look at their profile I see all the negative comments aimed back at them. I never understood negative anti social people. It seems pointless to me. If you leave a comment (non abusive / swearing) I will usually approve it within 24 hours. If you have any questions feel free to send me a personal message. Some people must think I hate taxis or something. I give everyone an equal chance to star on my videos. The reason so many taxis seem to star on my videos is because their constantly doing stupid illegal maneuvers. If they drove like normal people or obeyed the law they wouldn't end up on my videos. After doing a bit of research I found out that these overseas student taxi drivers didn't even have to sit a driving test. They had to produce only a certificate / licence from their home country and they were issued a brand new open QLD drivers licence. I would have thought they would have had to at least do a written road rules test and a driving test like I did when I got my licence. That possibly explains why they don't know the road rules / give way rules. It appears paying the $400 for the cab company training course and providing an overseas licence makes you a cab driver. That's a scary thought. If I'm wrong, feel free to let me know via a personal message with reference material to back up your claims.

My setup / Hardware

I've been asked many times about my camera setup so here goes....

First, there is a small CCD camera mounted above the rearview mirror so as not to obstruct my view.

This feeds down to the custom GPS overlay box which displays the GPS co-ordinates, speed, time, date and also the word 'BRAKE" every time the brakes are applied. This is hooked to the power to the brake lights.

They have various setups and the custom brake switch was something they built for me especially although if you mention my youtube name they'll probably remember me. It's rare to see the brake switch in operation these days since it only works in 1 of the vehicles I drive. I never got around to setting it up on the other vehicles. Basically whenever I braked on that vehicle the word "BRAKE" appears til I stop braking. It's a good function and shows reaction time to hazards.

After the black box the signal then goes to a DVR which records on a loop (ie wipes over itself every so often). The DVR I'm currently using is only a 640 x 480 AVI recorder which is kinda cheap and purchased off ebay for $100. It's far from perfect in quality but still gives sufficient quality. It also records to a SD card at about 90 minutes / 2 Gig card. It's very low power and very robust so in a serious accident it shouldn't lose the recording like hdd versions. Another thing to consider is once I edit the video there is a quality loss and then uploading it and youtube converting it loses a bit more quality. The original unedited footage is clearer of course.
