Well both Glenn Frey and Don Henley were Stone Poneys before the Eagles. I don't know about Henley, but that does look like Glenn Frey on the guitar to Linda's right.

Bobby retired from performing, but still sells artwork on his website and does appearances at art shows. Don't know whether he brings a guitar!

This song did get up to number 10 in July of 1968 on WLS. Unfortunately, most of the rest of the country never heard of it. But for another great example of WHY? I Need Love by the Third Booth got up to #2 in the same month, only kept out of #1 by Jumpin Jack Flash. But try to find anyone out...

I guess one reason this song did not do better, even in Chicago, was because of some of the fighting between record companies, WLS and WCFL. The song made it as high as #13 on CFL, but never even broke into the top 30 on WLS. I used to listen to LS a lot more than CFL in those days - conversely...

Not only did this song not get the national attention it deserved, but if you listen to the Shames albums, the band definitely deserved better. I think Columbia decided to put all of their money and promotion behind Guercio and the Buckinghams, and the Shames never got the exposure they deserved.

PF Sloan has to be one of the greatest almost unheard of songwriters from the 60s - and so many of his songs, like this one, have a very depressing undercurrent to them, much like "Let me Be by the Turtles, "Where were you when I needed you" by the Grassroots, and of course, "Eve of Destruction"....

Nillson did a much better job with the song than Badfinger - but sadly, both Pete Ham and Tom Evans committed suicide (8 years apart), and it had to do with getting screwed out of their royalties from Without You.
@pepperdineu1 But if you buy the Beach Boys record now, you'll see it is credited to Chuck Berry.
