About Me:

As you might guess many of my interest have a bit of a paramilitary theme. Anything involving fire arms, combat shooting, IPSC/IDPA competitions, national match rifle, but also, rock climbing, martial arts, camping, hiking, map reading, and so on. I am a NRA certified instructor in basic pistol and personal protection, NRAs political correct name for close quarters battle.

The Army taught me that we are all solders for life and that readiness is one if the responsibilities of citizenship. I still feel that way. If you think the 2nd amendment gives you the right to "keep and bear arms", it also give you the responsibility to be "well regulated" with it. Which was the Kings English at the time for proficient and smoothly functioning, not tightly controlled or restricted.

Here are a few of the most frequently ask questions I get

How do I built a AR pistol
You have to start with a registered pistol lower, you cant just cut down a rifle. If you cant find a pistol lower, there a little scarce, you can buy a brand new rifle lower and have the dealer do the paperwork as a pistol. That makes it legal but its a good ideal to have someone engrave pistol only on it some where.
There are two types of 9.mm ARs. The Olympic pattern and the Colt. The Oly uses a British Sten submachine mags while a Colt uses a modified UZI mag and there are after market mags available for the Colt along with 100 rd drum mags.

Do I have to use the short buffer tube and how do I use the long one?
You can use any buffer tube you want. I started mine with the sort tube and had a lot of trouble bumpfiring with rounds firing before the bolt was completely closed. My finger was a little faster then the buffer spring. When I switched back to a full length tube the problem went away. To use a full length tube you will need a sling mounting block for an ACE skeltonized stock to hold the tube and read retention pin in place. The block comes in there pistol kit but it comes with a short tube that you dont need. They will sell it separately if you call them and ask. I think its around $30. They sell the foam covers for the stock tubes also, and there the only ones who do. At $4 each I would get a couple.

Remember an AR pistol can not have a stock on it or any way to "readily
attach" one, legal terminology . You will need to modify the tube. Theres a block on the end of the tube with a threaded hole in it for attaching the standard A2 stock. I ground the block off smooth and filed the hole with JB. Should keep everybody happy.

Is your gun modified to bumpfire?
No. Mine is a completely stock Oly A2 upper with standard sights on a RRA pistol lower. Trigger group is stock but I bend the hammer springs to about a 45 degree angle and polish the sears on the hammer and trigger with 600 grit sand paper. The smother the better.

Will a .223 bumpfire like that?
The 9mm is easier because it has more recoil than the .223. The .223 will definitely bump fire though. Start from the hip till you get the hang of it.

Will bumpfiring damage my gun?
I have never heard of a problem with bump firing other than the normal rules of any full auto. Never shoot more than 100 rounds without letting it cool off and dont shoot hot loaded ammo. I have AK's and AR's with thousands or rounds through them and they still function fine.

Will this work on an AK or other guns?
Yes you can differently do this with and AK. SKSs and .30 carbines are the only guns that just dont seem to work real well. Too stiff of trigger pulll and too light recoil.

I cant seem to do this what am I doing wrong?
Many people tend to over think this. They seem to want to pump the gun or giggle there
Finger. You have to hold everything in one place and let the recoil do the work.
Start from the hip. Dont worry about hitting anything till you get the method down, then start trying to control the muzzle. At todays ammo prices it might get a little expensive.

I was thinking that a good (soft) recoil pad or spring loaded recoil pad would help considerably...what do you think?
You remind me alot of the actor on Urban Cowboy ... sorry not jt

Isn't it true that a vertical fore grip would make that a title 2 weapon?
