Buddy sets the pace of his "I play the theater!" introduction to this video at around 226 beats per minute, composing most of his phrases between :00 and :32 with eighth note triplets, which clock in at the same speed as sixteenth notes at 170 beats per minute, which is a bit over 11.33 notes per second.

Buddy's first solo pass against Ronnie Verrell, the drummer for Animal, keeps the tempo at 226 beats per minute and runs from :32 to :39. This pass also consists largely of left hand eighth note triplets played on the snare with his right hand snare shots played on every third note.

Verrell responds to Buddy's first pass by dropping the tempo to around 150 beats per minute and focuses on playing very simple, heavy, eight note-driven "jungle" work on the toms from :39 to :52. Buddy joins in on the jungle theme, adding mostly very basic syncopation on the floor tom, bass drum and snare drum, before stepping back to turn the work over to Verrell at 1:05. Verrell raises the tempo to approximately 165 beats per minute and plays sixteenth notes until 1:18, mostly on the snare, before turning it back to Buddy.

Buddy raises the tempo back to 226 beats per minute and focuses on eighth note triplet figures; he executes two sixteenth note triplet flurries between both hands on the snare between 1:18 and 1:21. He then plays several four note figures consisting of eighth note triplets between his toms/bass drum and left hand on the snare that are articulated as RRLL. He concludes this second run with two RLL eighth note triplet figures -- one with all snare beats, the other with one right hand tom beat followed by two left hand snare beats.

Verrell takes over, this time dropping the tempo way down to approximately 115 beats per minute, and, from 1:28 to 1:33, focuses on sixteenth note phrases. At 1:44, Verrell increases the tempo to 168 beats per minute or so, and plays a long, two handed sixteenth note roll, and ends his pass at 1:40.

Buddy comes in and plays a few sixteenth note snare and tom rolls. Verrell then joins in at 1:50 and the two begin to duet.

Buddy relaxes and lets Verrell lead the duet from 1:50 to around 2:25, at which point Buddy steps forward and his relatively soft sixteenth note work on the floor tom increases in volume and speed, becoming mostly thirty secondth note twists and turns and lasting until 2:34.

Buddy recedes again until 2:49 to give Verrell the spotlight, cutting back the power and playing mostly sixteenth note phrases save for 2:25 to 2:32, where he plays eight or so non-consecutive thirty secondth note phrases rolls on the floor tom before pulling back again until 2:42 or so.

At 2:49, Buddy steps forward playing six or so sixteenth note LRR figures on the floor tom and a few miscellaneous figures elsewhere on the kit. Around the 2:57 mark, Buddy sketches two triangles with his snare, mounted tom and floor tom. Then, at around 3:03, Buddy splits several ten note figures, consisting entirely of thirty secondth notes, between his mounted tom and floor tom.

Buddy follows these figures with some miscellaneous tom work until 3:15, at which point the duet ends and Buddy goes solo. Within a few seconds, Buddy pumps the tempo back to 226 beats per minute and assaults the kit with sixteenth note triplet bursts, eighth note triplet left handed snare rolls, riotous cymbal slams and, between 4:13 and 4:20, his famous tom-to-tom crossovers (which cause Animal's jaw to drop). At 4:27, Buddy raises the tempo to about 250 beats per minute, and focuses on powerhouse cymbal crashes. At 4:36, Buddy lowers the tempo to 180 beats per minute. He alternates between his cymbals with his right hand, and runs left handed 16th notes, which clock in at 12 notes per second. His solo ends at 4:52, along with the video. (less info)
