The Lisbon Treaty is an attempt of the European Union to bring into law 90% of what was in the EU Constitution. The EU constitution was going to be one document to replace all other treaties. The Lisbon Treaty will be inserted into the current book of treaties. The Constitution, being a constitution required a vote in member states. The treaty does not, accept, thanks to Crotty, in Ireland. The Dutch and French rejected the Constitution hence the EU's decision to design a treaty. We rejected the treaty but nothing has changed in the treaty text and we are being asked to vote on it again.

They say they have secured guarantees. But after Lisbon, The EU will be able to self ratify. And if they wish, they can ignore the guarantees. They are nothing more than political promises.

Article 1 changes the current European Community offically to a new European Union. "The Union shall be founded on the present Treaty and on the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (hereinafter referred to as "the Treaties"). Those two Treaties shall have the same legal value. The Union shall replace and succeed the European Community.".

The New European Union being proposed has the power of a state, a superstate, superceeding all member states. Much like how the US Constitution superceeds all states Constitutions, the new EU will have power over member states Constitutions, where laws differ etc, the EU law will rule.

Currently Ireland has 2% of the vote in the EU. Germany has 8%. Under the Lisbon treaty, qualified majority voting will be used. thie means that Ireland;s vote will be cut to 0.8% and Germany will grow to 17%. so at the moment, Germany has 4 times higher voting as Ireland, if Lisbon comes into law, Germany will have 18 times more vogint power. So these headbangers on the yes really need to explain how we will have more "influence" in Europe if we vote yes..

The EU is spending more than Cocal Cola on advertising its image. Look at the Facts in the cold light of day. This is not a good deal for workers of europe, it is not good for the individual. It wil be good for big business and speculators and profits. But refer to the Laval case and you will see how workers will race to the bottom, rights will dissappear that have been built up over the last century. all in the name of productivity and profiteering.

The commission and Council will jointly decide laws, tax etc. These are unelected individuals. The Elected MEPs will have the least amount of say, only being allowed to suggest changes to laws the council and commission cannot agree on. The council may or may not adhere to these suggestions.

This is not the Europe I want to hand on to my Children.
