Congressman Roscoe Bartlett (R-6-MD) urged support for our troops and veterans and thanked them for their service during closing remarks of a hearing on April 1, 2011. Congressman Bartlett is the chairman of the Subcommittee on Tactical and Air Land Forces of the House Armed Services Committee. He presided over a hearing about the President's Budget for Fiscal Year 2012 and the status of equipment for the Army and Air Force National Guard. Congressman Bartlett begins his closing remarks by thanking the Services for their efforts to reduce suicides by troops and expressed concern about the number of homeless veterans. He urged more support by the Services and American society as soldiers and guard members transition from active duty to veteran and retired status. Between 1:13 and 3:07, Congressman Bartlett recounts the emotional goodbyes he recently witnessed between young couples at a deployment ceremony for a National Guard unit. He especially notes the example of the Company Commander who would leave behind his wife who is six months pregnant and their 18-month old son to go to Egypt for a year. Congressman Bartlett thanked all of the witnesses for their leadership. He asked them to extend his thanks to all of the people under their command.

At a hearing on March 31, 2011 by the House Armed Services Committee on which Congressman roscoe Bartlett (R-6-MD)serves as the chairman of the Subcommittee on Tactical and Air Land Forces, he had the first opportunity since U.S. military operations began 12 days ago to question an Administration official about the President's illegal war in Libya. At 1:49, Rep. Bartlett asks, "Are we now aiding and abetting the same organizations that we are fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq?" The Secretary said at 2:04, "we don't have much visibility" of the opposition. At 3:25, Rep. Bartlett discusses his new bill, H.R. 1257, to ensure the costs incurred by America's military in Libya would not be borne by taxpayers or degrade the capability of our Armed Forces by requiring the President to provide Congress a list of recommended budget cuts in non-security discretionary spending for FY 2011 to make depleted FY 11 DoD accounts whole.
