@RIDDICKorigional.. .Perhaps a 4:1 balun would allow you to tune up on a random wire antenna...the internal ant. tuner will tune to about a 3:1 SWR allowing for normal tuner use with an antenna tuned even somewhat close to resonance.The 703+ has a very nice all around use internal tuner.

Your hand was blocking the connector when you inserted the pin.Is the hook portion on the end pointed down or up?..Maybe showing the orientation of connector pin while inserting it (up/down) would help.

With propagation that well,especially on 12 meters you probably could have done well with even 5-10 watts.I do portable ops.here in Ariz. with my IC-703+ @ 10watts PEPoutput and have done very good.Thanks for the nice video.73!..W7KB.
