This channel is set up for those interested in the business of location-based-services (LBS) including location-based-games (LBG). Although the promises of location based service has been around for years the reality as a business has failed to materialise. What is happening why is this unique opportunity to change the way we interact with customers been put on the long finger?




I believe that competition is holding up the industry as Google has a monopoly on location with Google earth, Google Maps and now with Crowdsources Google has shown that they intend to use location information from google mobile maps to report traffic conditions. My partner and I also had the same idea and have spent two years working out how to provide this service and how to make it profitable. The problem with so much of the location-based-services are the return on investment what we figured out is that location information is very valuable if I can keep you updating me on your location I can tell things like what the road conditions are like for your drive to work. What Google have decided to do is show you a map with the current conditions on it in exchange for your information. I think your information is worth more and what we are offering is to provide you with an audio alert when a traffic condition is evident on your normal commute. We think that you wouldnt check Google maps each time you leave the house and we think that with so to few people using this service Google will give up. Where is the money for Google is if you keep giving them the information about your locations big business will pay to know where you shop, what you stop for and even what you see on the way. The problem I see with Google in the game is that Google are going to sell us down the river with this (have you tried to find anything on the Internet lately non-commercial information will take you forever

I believe that we can have more ethical LBS if we vote with our feet and use only those originations that express exactly what they are going to do with our Location-Based Information
