Straightforward, majestic, and heroic, without all the nonsensical idiosyncrasies, rubatos, and Horowitz copying that has crept into almost all the interpretations of young pianists.

Good to see that someone has finally taken up the challenge and performed the Horowitz version, which in my view is superior to the original, despite the claim of some "purists" that Horowitz put "graffiti" is the score. He made it a more effective work for the piano.

I have the Horowitz recording of this sonata. She has managed to capture that indescribable "something" that Horowitz brought to the work without just being a copy of Horowitz.

@brunoparis12 Earl Wild was known in Europe. His obituary in the Britain's The Gramophone, the preeminent classical music magazine in the word, started with: "Earl Wild was one of the greatest pianists in history". That should be his epitaph. Simple, true, and to the point. End of discussion.

@Shooshie128 Actually, there is a high quality monaural recording from 1950, with quite acceptable sound, (RCA LM-1205, or on CD, vol 28 of the Rubinstein collection on BMG) that in my opinion is the ultimate interpretation of this work.
