I actually kind of like the show too. I just think it's poorly written and disappointing; worse than I expect from Gundam, that's all.

It's not every kids' show that depicts a giant rat carrying off a human infant.

I hope this piece turns up in Evangelion 3.0.

@MsPowerCheese On the contrary, I would argue that the nudity in Ghost in the Shell is less gratuitous and more artful than the norm in Japanese animation. It goes more for realism than eroticism.

You know that a movie was really effective when merely listening to a particular track from its score makes you cringe uncontrollably.

The character animation is a little too literalist, kind of like some of Bakshi's lesser movies, and the CG's a bit intrusive.

The backgrounds are very nice, though, and it does seem to have good atmosphere.

The mid-nineties sure were an exciting time for mecha anime. First you have Evangelion, which turned all of the old mecha tropes on their heads, and the very next year you have Escaflowne, which made the perfect marriage between the mecha and fantasy genres.

The movie had its problems, but this song's scene was truly one of a kind. There had never been anything like it and there hasn't been anything like it since then. It was the perfect storm of amazing music, animation, and emotion.

This doesn't have anything on SDFM:DYRL. The animation in the old movie fit the song perfectly.

@FabulousZero You think Seed and 00 are the best Gundam shows? Sounds like you need a healthy dose of Universal Century. Unicorn and 08th MS Team are the best in my humble opinion.

@dct1700d I don't think this notion is well founded. At every point in gaming history there has always been a majority of games that are cheap crap and a minority with real heart. Don't say "never," because the future has all the time in the world to prove you wrong.
