Following its arrival on the scene in 1985, Rare established a reputation for quality that led to fame with such classic titles as Donkey Kong Country and GoldenEye. Upon its acquisition by Microsoft Game Studios in 2002, Rare supported the Xbox 360 debut with two major launch titles, Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero. Subsequent years brought innovation in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, the Viva Piñata franchise and pioneering work on the Xbox 360 Avatars.

Now operating from both its custom-built rural HQ in Twycross and a new Birmingham facility, Rare is dedicated to exploring the potential of the motion-controlled Kinect for Xbox 360 -- and the first fruit of this labour, Kinect Sports, was unveiled at E3 2010 and launched to great success alongside the Kinect sensor in November of that year. The sequel, Kinect Sports: Season Two, followed with six new sports and a raft of additions and improvements in October 2011.
