PS... you can probably hear that I'm a preachers daughter myself, ha ha... I can relate to Nina Simone very well, also to her temper ;). To say it in old fashioned church language: I believe that 'The Kingdom' has to be built here and now. That's why I love songs about change so much. In my view there's a lot that needs to be changed.

Thanks for the serious reflection! On hand hand I agree. Art and culture cannot really be owned by anyone, and they evolve by influences all the time. On the other hand I believe that it's good to be as aware as possible where you get your inspiration from and to honour that. Respecting the origins and heritage of the Africans has not really been common practice in the past centuries... my own country is responsible for many black pages in their history. The structural discrimination of blacks in the USA is very recent and partly lives on. The music industry took part in the discrimination too and was often 'whitewashing' music. It's something you just can't ignore. But that does not discredit all 'white' music, truth is more than 'black and white' :). I do believe you have to keep checking on injustices today as well as in the past, because they will keep asking for restauration. You can't build a future on hidden injustice, that's my view anyway.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate that :). I agree about the limited relevance of irritation when it comes to true friendship. It's even stronger when you share an urgent situation together or fight for a shared cause. That's one reason why I love to be part of initiatives for change. It's the best way to bind different people together. Although you usually have to deal with a lot of confrontations along the way too. Best wishes for the week! Door

Regarding 'Five Miles Out' by Mike Oldfield: I liked that one too, while I'm not much of a fan of his other -more symphonic- work. I read that it was one of the few albums where he sings the lead vocals, not being so confident about his own voice. The song seems to have been inspired by a real near-tragic aeroplane flight he experienced. He beautifully managed to turn it into a more symbolic tale, open to different interpretations. It made me think of 'Smoke On The Water' by Deep Purple, that had a similar way of transforming a real life incident into symbolism.

Glad that you found something of interest again on my channel. In my view the world of Youtube chronically lacked honesty, innocence and wisdom, so it was my mission to add some of that. Trying to stay true to myself and my own interests in the mean time. But pouring forth knowledge is not the best way to make friends... it can create a lot of irritation and quite a high barrier too. So thanks for taking the courage to step in once more :).
