About this user

Robert (Rain) Chavez was born and raised in the small West-Texas town of Pecos. In 1997, he entered the University of Texas at Austin film school to pursue his passion for storytelling. Realizing there was a lack of representation in the local film community of his Chicano heritage, he became committed to creating images that reflected his culture. "Mi Sangre Entera," a 16mm short film written and directed at UT, explores a Mexican-American grandmother's dying wish. The film was invited to screen at two separate festivals, Cine Las Americas and Cinema Texas, where it received positive recognition within the Latino community.

Following his graduation from UT in 2000, Rain Chavez worked for KVUE Television News, an ABC affiliate in Austin, producing commercials and promotional content. In 2002, Rain partnered with cinematographer/producer Mike Scannell, a fellow UT alumni, to produce music videos and short films. The partnership formed Visual Vagos Films, a company committed to projects that educate, engage and inspire the human spirit.
