Self-driven by a passion for downtowns and urban revitalization, Michael's professional background includes experience with Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), downtown commercial property management and the largest international membership organization of downtowns. As the Information and Policy Director for the International Downtown Association, he has first hand experience with downtown associations and downtown leaders from across the globe. Serving in this capacity, Michael was immediately recognized for his impact on a number of innovative and creative endeavors in project management, marketing and technological advances.

Prior to working with IDA, Michael had the absolute pleasure of working as an urban planner/designer for Buffalo Place, a BID in Buffalo, NY. Recently Michael has been asked to create a "vision" of a public market with mixed-use capacity to help revitalize a prominent historic city block. Prior work with Buffalo Place includes creating the ground work for the revitalization of Buffalo's Main Street. Both major contributions have led to success.

Michael also worked as an architectural designer for a major downtown commercial property owner in Buffalo, NY. In this capacity, he was responsible maintaining and recruiting tenants for over one million square feet of commercial and retail property. Other positions of interest include stints as an architectural draftsman, an engineer, a park ranger and a member of an academic think tank which promotes urban design and regional planning in Western New York.

Michael loves to read and is an avid photographer of downtown neighborhoods. Another passion is rowing, and he recently coached a champion US and Canadian national high school crew team. Michael has a Bachelor of Professional Science degree in Architecture, as well as a Master of Urban Planning degree, both from the University at Buffalo. His hometown interest in downtown living led to the creation of the only website dedicated to this issue for Buffalo, NY, www.queencityliving.org. His award winning master's thesis focuses on downtown living in challenged northeastern cities and how to convert office towers. Raised in Buffalo, NY and Canada.
