The Star-Spangled Banner
by Francis Scott Key

O say can you see, by the dawns early light,
What so proudly we haild at the twilights last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
Oer the ramparts we watchd were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
Oer the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foes haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, oer the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the mornings first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,
Tis the star-spangled banner - O long may it wave
Oer the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battles confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washd out their foul footsteps pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
Oer the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lovd home and the wars desolation!
Blest with victry and peace may the heavn rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preservd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto - In God is our trust,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
Oer the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Music: This 19th century version of the Star-Spangled Banner was performed on original instruments from the National Museum of American History's collection. Arranged by G. W. E. Friederich, the music is played as it would have been heard in 1854.

The Temples and Shrines of Inwangsan qiranger - 431 views - 1 week ago
Inwangsan is a small mountain located near the northern edge of Seoul (in close proximity to Gyeongbok and Changdok palaces). On this mountain are a collection of Buddhist and Shamanistic temples that have coexisted for hundreds of years.

The largest of the Buddhist temples is Bongwonsa. While it was closed during my visit, I was fortunate to see several ritual rites being performed in a smaller temple nearby. The other main attraction is Guksadang. This small Shamanistic Temple was originally built on Namsan, but when the Japanese destroyed it in 1925, it was rebuilt here. I felt very honored to go inside and see the interior.

I've shown you mine... Now show me yours! qiranger - 691 views - 1 week ago
Its no secret that one of my passions is to grab my camera and head outdoors and show people around. There is so much to see and do in the world, that I feel by showing you where I live does a little to make the world a smaller and cozier place. I hope it also brings us together as a whole.

Its also true that over time YouTube has become a great medium for people to record videos and share a little about where they live and think. When YouTube first came on the scene, we were relegated to a short video of 10 minutes and not more than 100mb. Now we can upload videos in full HD and up to 20gb in size.

But not everyone has a fancy camera or feels they have the skill to make a fancy video. This often leads to people not fully participating in the experience.

I aim to change that.

You see, what I enjoy most about making videos is sharing a little about where I live. I want to see where you live, because we all have memories about where we live: our houses, playgrounds, schools, trees where we first kissed, etc. and I want to see them! But i dont want to see them in some special video, I want to see them in a little slideshow. Furthermore, I want to see them as a slide show made up of pictures from your cell phone.

So go out and make a slide show showcasing where you live. Just make sure it doesnt go longer than 2 minutes. Upload it to YouTube and post it as a video response to this video. The deadline for initial entries is July 5th at 9pm Eastern US time. Ill then review the submissions and then choose what I think are the top five and showcase them on my channel. Then well have the finals, with votes open to the public. I make the final decision on which video I think is the best and award a special prize.

A prize you say?

Yes a prize!

The winner be awarded a bag-o-swag from Korea. Thats right. Im going to go out and get a box and fill it up with some very unique Korean items and ship it out to you! Ive already started collecting the items and think the stuff is pretty cool! I might have to order some of the things for myself!

So lets see those videos!

The War Memorial of Korea qiranger - 392 views - 1 week ago
Opened in 1994, the War memorial of Korea provides an educational and emotional experience of armed conflict on the Penensula. There are over 13,000 artifacts divided between the exterior and interior exhibit areas, making it one of the most comprehensive displays open to the public.

Intro music: Redondo Beach (Medium) - Apple Loops
Soundtrack: Revival by Kevin MacLeod.

This video was shot entirely with a Canon a570 camera - a point and shoot camera. I did this to show that anyone can make a great travel video without having to go out and spend a fortune on a camera.

Seonjeongneug: The Royal Tombs qiranger - 477 views - 3 weeks ago
Seonjeongneug is home to the royal tombs of the 9th and 11th kings (and their wives) of the Joseon Dynasty. After paying your admission you find yourself immediately at a red gate. This served as not only a marker for holy ground, but to ward off evil spirits. At the top of the gate is the Taegeuk (the Korean Yin/Yang symbol: Red is the air, Blue is the earth, Yellow is humanity). The spikes on the gate announce the Kings authority over the land.

From the gate is a bi-level path. The upper path is for the heavenly spirit of the departed King and the lower path is for the living. The path leads up to a temple where rituals are still performed to this day to honor the departed kings. Its here that the body and spirit of the kings were separated, only to be rejoined when they meet once more at the tomb. While you can fully explore Seolleung, one must admire Jeongneung from afar.

King Seongjong (1457-1494) was the 9th king of the Joseon Dynasty. He was well loved and left legacies that still are a part of Korean life today. His tomb is the Seolleung. Its a large structure situated on a hill. There are three levels representing military, civil, and royal responsibilities. Stone statues stand guard on the first two tiers, along with a giant lantern symbolizing education and enlightenment. The final (royal) tier is marked by a stone tablet which covers the tombs entrance. To either side of the tablet are a pair of tall pillars. These pillars have holes in them, which the Kings spirit could enter and be reunited with his body.

The Tomb itself is a 12 sided structure, symbolizing the 12 directions and signs of the Chinese Zodiac. There are intricate stone carvings around the tomb as well as several stone animals for protection.

Jeongneung is the burial site for King Jungjong (1488-1544), the 11th king of the Joseon Dynasty. Both tombs are surrounded by a lush pine forest and business professionals from around the area often come to the grounds to have lunch or relax. It really does give a soothing feel to an overworked person stepping in from the concrete jungle.

Just drop a comment below or post a video response and I'll respond to them all soon!
