I don't think they were trying to outdo the original, just pay homage. I think they did a nice job, but covers rarely reach the original and almost never top them. It's a nice reading.

@KingOfUm I totally agree. I love everything through 1,000 Years of Trouble. This album horrified me, and didn't last very long in my collection.

Actually, my music teacher pointed out the use of Kookaburra in Down Under when the song came out, and played the song for us.

Many people mistake this for Slick, because Anderson sounds like a very restrained Slick.

I love Neil Finn. He is just amazing, and I always look forward to new stuff by him. I am never disappointed, and at least once per every album, he just leaves speechless. This song gutted me the first time I heard it and it hasn't lost its power through repeated listenings.
