Based in Peterborough, Punky Rebel Media have been about since 2004 when Punky Si and then collaborator Mick Sick released a demo CD. Illness scuppered Mick and after a succession of collaborators, Si caught up with two of his old friends, Sharon Gangster and Ian Gillis who have been integral parts of the band ever since.
Their debut, and so far only, gig was at the Cherry Tree supporting The Contrast where Luke approached the band to say how much he liked them and how he wouldnt mind being in a similar band. Being a multi-instrumentalist Luke was invited to replace the departing bass player a short time later.
Influenced by the kitchen sink drama of Pulp and the energy, excitement and experimentation of The Clash, Punky Rebel Media talk about real scenarios. Si explains, Unlike certain Peterborough bands, we dont want to be Coldplay. This isnt a beautiful world, we have a demolition happy council who havent realised the legacy theyll be leaving 20 years from now and far from it being the best thing about a relationship, co-habiting simply means poor health and a lack of saving from having to buy sofas and table wear you didnt need in the first place!
Luke is also the lead singer of scooter club favourites The Replicas, Sharon sang in The Gangsters and also works as a session artist, Ian was in the short lived paranoid sandwiches while Si has provided samples and sound effects to Junk Puppets and Destructors 666.
It is the bands link with Destructors 666 which has secured their track The Cost of Loving a place on the Glam Rock EP, a split release alongside Destructors 666 and The Ruined released by Rowdy Farrago
