About this user
Hello world.Ok, enough people have written just to ask what's up with the name PSYCHOPORNIA, so I'll just post an answer here. First of all, sorry if you're disappointed there's no pr0n. ::snerk:: Ok, no I'm not really sorry. =)
Have you ever done something that seemed like a great idea at the time, and then kicked yourself later because it was actually NOT a bright idea? Something like... say... Oh I don't know... Maybe using what had been your band's "edgy" name for a user name on a well-known public website like YouTube? Then later realised (after reading through far too many messages from random pervs) that it was a REALLY dumb idea? However by that time it's too late, and you're stuck with it, unless you want to start all over, which you don't because you'd rather just keep everything in one place?
::sigh::
Yeah.
"Psychopornia" was originally the name of a girl band I was in a lifetime ago. It was later the name of a website I ran (defunct since I began seriously working towards my career). The name has followed me for many years, and many people I know associate the name with me, so I chose to use it here, and now I am unable to change it. But that's okay. Live and learn.
Among many things which define who I am: I am a student, OCD autodidact, atheist, scientist, supporter/contributing member of the Open Source and DIYbio communities, a soon-to-be private pilot and a storm-chasing photographer when I have the time (selling the photos helps pay for my education). I teach American Belly Dance, as well as voice lessons, in order to help cover bills, classes, etc.. I do not watch much T.V. (YouTube is the closest I get), I do not often drink alcohol (less than 3x per year, if that), and I am one of those "health nuts" who believes in exercise --of the body AND mind-- and putting only what is pure into your body.
I am addicted to learning new things. I love to laugh, I love to dance, and I love life. I know what it is to suffer, and I have made some terribly bad decisions in my life, however it is all a part of this crazy existence of ours; rather than focus on the negative parts of my life, I prefer to consider myself lucky that I have made it through so much, as it has made me who I am today.
I'm also battling cancer, which --as strange as it may sound-- I am grateful for, as it has given me an insight to LIVING that I had not truly had before.
Once I am through with my medical hiatus, I will be finishing up my studies here in TX (I'm originally from Seattle, WA). I have recently begun work on a research project that is the whole reason I chose this profession, and I look forward to traveling around the world in the name of Science.
I welcome all correspondence, from anyone, anywhere. I'll respond to all messages (time permitting).
I love life too much to miss out on it; I seek to LIVE, not merely EXIST. This means living every day as though it was my last. I will never put off until tomorrow what I am able to pull off today. Life is too short not to have fun, and there is never a reason not to enjoy --or at least be grateful for-- every moment we have here.
If you've read this far (and therefore have an attention span longer than that of a goldfish), and you want to get to know me a bit better than my sound byte here, drop me a line. Kindred spirits and people of like minds are always welcome.
