About this user
I have been working' on car's since I can remember. Breathing all them exhaust fumes and other hazardous, toxic vapors, has left me slightly deranged! Or, could it be that I, being Gemini have a split personality, one that leans toward sheer genius at times and, sheer lunacy at others? I went to OSU in 1975-76 to become an Architect. One of my classes was computer programming. Programming was done by punch-cards at the time and feed into the main-frame by a card reader. Most of the programs or routines we wrote were for the Alaska Pipeline and FORTRAN was the language. One late night in the computer lab I watched some students feed a huge stack of cards into the machine. I waited around for the output to see what they were doing. It was a near perfect gray-scale picture of a cat made up of letters and numbers. I was hooked. When my computer programing class ended I lost my access to the mainframe. I soon made friends with other people who had classes that let them have access to the main frame and convinced them to give me their password so I could play with this 'new' toy. I dropped out, mainly because no-one told me I could change my major. Got married in July of 1976. Later that year the wife and I went to see the movie 'Demon Seed'; I had an epiphany, computers would eventually become so integrated into our lives it was frightening to imagine it. In the late 1970's personal home computers were offered to the public. The Commodore Pet, the Sinclair, the first Apple. All 8-bit machines. My first computer was a TI-99-4a 8-Bit machine with cassette tape drive for storage and an rf/video hookup to the television. I also had access to my father-in-laws TRS-80 (Radio Shack)I got books of games and simulations written in MS BASIC and, thanks to TI's Programmers Reference Guide was able to re-write the MS BASIC programs to TI-BASIC.
Who I'd like to meet:
Extended Network Banners I AM and Jesus. To really want to meet any person after meeting these two well, that would be sinning. But, seriously: My wife (again.) Albert Einstein, Werner Von Braun, Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking The person(s) responsible for what is currently coming off the Automobile Assembly lines of the 'BIG 3', just to tell them: 1) To quit copying the Japs, it's the materials in their cars, not the design, that makes their cars better. 2) Get back to the basics, If you make it serviceable, you will never have to service it. Oh, and, loose the plastic fasteners (snaps) and get back to the real fastener. Nuts and Bolts. Or, do the highly paid UAW workers just not understand the concept of 'lefty loosie, righty tighty'?
