The World is reaching a point of crisis. A growing population and slowly dwindling resources mean that life will become tougher for people in the world and practically unlivable for those in those in the less-developed parts of it. In addition, the degradation of natural environments and the human-generated change in the earth's climate will only serve to exacerbate the problem. The ongoing drive for unending economic growth is slowly killing the planet, and it may kill many of us too if things don't change.

There needs to be a growth in people's awareness and a change in their attitudes, because a lot of people either don't seem to know about, or don't seem to care about such issues, or they simply put them out of their minds, unwilling to face the prospect of a future of increasing scarcity of vital resources such as food and water, preferring not to believe that such a future is possible. I should know, I was one such person. Growing up, I couldn't comprehend the possibility that our advanced, technological society could act so recklessly and irresponsibly towards the world and thus undermine the prospects of a stable, liveable future for Humanity. Even up until recently, I still didn't really want to believe that the situation in the world might become so challenging and so uncertain. Yet this is what we're faced with and it's time more people began to acknowledge this.

But don't get me wrong, I'm not a pessimist, or a harbinger of doom with nothing positive to offer in regard to these issues. There is hope for us. Please visit http://www.newmessage.org
