Off The Grid Pictures has begun pre-production on the development of a new film that will re-define the travel documentary format. With guerilla-style videography and an energetic new look, Off The Grid's first major project will push the envelope with the creation of the world's first adventure documentary, Project Canada. So what is Project Canada? Project Canada is the working title of an upcoming documentary that chronicles the journey of four American guys traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast of Canada. Being on the road for three months they will discover the heart and soul of this amazing country, and have one hell of an adventure along the way. While the purpose of this film is entertainment in a dynamic reality-style format, we will also emphasize the educational aspect of the adventure. Most Americans have no idea what lies north of the border. By participating in activities and events that have a distinct Canadian flavor, we hope that the OGP crew can give fellow young Americans a better understanding of what Canada is all about. What is an adventure documentary? Think of a typical travel documentary. Remove the boring guy with an English accent. Forget the monotone historical narration. Lose the bland stock footage of streets and buildings. Now add in an energetic cast of characters you can actually relate to. A carpe-diem attitude. Guerilla-style videography. Beer. Traveling off the beaten path. Loud music. That's the experience of an adventure documentary. There are also factors in the research and planning that help to create this type of film. Often, documentary films are bound by a rigid shooting schedule. The theory behind an Adventure Documentary is the use of a "soft" shooting schedule that includes a number of "hard" dates. Basically, there are locations where we are required to arrive at a specific date, but these are spread out among dates we can change as needed. While still keeping a structured schedule the OGP crew will have the ability to do, see, and experience whatever comes their way. Why Canada? The simple answer to that question is another question... Why not? Canada is the most accessible foreign country for Americans with the exception being perhaps Mexico. It is the second largest country in the world. Yet to most Americans it is a vast unknown! It's time to explore the North American neighborhood. There's another, more personal reason for one member of the crew. Johnathan was actually born in Canada, but moved away when he was very young. He's still a Canadian citizen, but knows very little about his own country. For Johnathan this trip isn't just about the adventure and party, it's about discovering his own heritage.
