Even better is the version - look for The three bells Compagnons de la chanson.. The versions with or without Piaf are fabulous.

@rockarden1 I believe I had the same record, black centre 10 inch columbia. It was the Compagnons de la Chanson in their English version which in itself was justifiably a great interpretation. Memories make the world and life worthwhile.

Super interpretation, difficult to fault except for the exaggerated hand movement and the over pedalling, though not a criticism, just a comment. A great pianist anyway.

Agreed! Awesome is the word. There have been many splendid perfomances and some here on Youtube but this is a truly Russian interpretation of a truly Russian piece conducted by a fantastic Russian. Timpani, brass, strings all great.

Having a French mother have been a Saint Saens fan since childhood so with a French orchestra what could be better. Dad was English so the Albert Hall was a regular. A great combination.
