About this user
My name is Mark Wilderspin and I've been specialisling in WWW and multimedia technologies since 1995.
These days, I'm especially into the mobile space (particularly WAP 2) where the challenge of porting dekstop web to mobile is proving to be extremely interesting - if you happen to like that kind of thing!
The catalyst for this channel centres my involvement in three CPD educational videos which I was invited to author and deliver in the mid-late 90's about the opportunities for multimedia and online technologies within the European construction and real estate sectors.
Before 1992 and my career switch to ICT and multimedia , I had spent eleven years working as a new business director and project manager within the UK Plc housebuilding and residential development sector.
It was whilst I was development director of Balfour Beatty Specialist Homes that I first became interested in digital technology - initially as a result of my being a member of several working parties and industrial collaborative groups concerned with 'SMART' buildings.
In 1992 I left the real estate and construction industry to pursue ICT and by 1995 had re-established myself as a multimedia specialist providing consultancy and project management services to a variety of clients. Projects ranged from pan-European, EU funded R&D to industrial mentoring and education and even authoring McGraw Hill's annual European multimedia reports for 1997 / 1998.
In 1996 I was approached by a specialist CPD provider to produce a series of three video programmes about the potential for multimedia and online communication within the real estate and construction sectors.
The result was the three programmes featured here.
Looking back on them now, it's gratifying to see how contemporary they still appear in terms of the technologies, ideas and concepts that were covered and discussed (e.g augmented reality - which is only now really becoming commercially do-able).
By the late 90's my generic knowledge of multimedia and database-driven web technologies had led me into investment banking, medicine, leisure and entertainment adn these are the sectors I still mostly operate within - although I still enjoy dabbling in real estate and construction whenever there is an opportunity!
