NARAL Pro-Choice America

7,441 views 5 months ago
In 1969 a group of concerned citizens joined together under the name the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws to fight for a woman's right to choose if and when she would have children. Fueled by the horrors of back alley abortions and a strong conviction that women's private reproductive-health decisions were theirs and theirs alone, in its early years NARAL gave voice to the previously silent American pro-choice majority. A short four years after its founding, NARAL celebrated its first monumental victory when the Supreme Court announced its decision in the landmark Roe v. Wade case. But the fight for reproductive justice didn't end with the strike of a gavel in 1973.

As we prepare to celebrate our 45th anniversary, NARAL continues its work to sustain an empowered constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding a full range of reproductive choices. There is no question that in today's volatile political landscape, amplifying our voice will be absolutely critical in expanding access and availability to affordable, safe, and legal abortion services.
