Find the old Met production of 1982 with Judith Blegan and Frederika von Stade. The best. Only drawback is that it's in English, but not a fatal one.

I really like Jerome Kern, and really like pre-Richard Rogers Oscar Hammerstein. And I like Rogers and Hart. Maybe it's the time period, but pre 1950 musicals are so much cooler than the later ones.

Maybe my favorite version. Wyn Morris was an underrated conductor (whose personality didn't exactly help his career). Geraint Evans is great, stepping out of his usual repretoire. And Janet Baker is on this CD, and is simply the greatest.

Oh, man, the things I had to explain to my kids! Gas rationing, Wendell Wilkie, "Of Mice and Men", etc. Totally worth it!

One of my heroines. Loved Ernie Kovacs and was left a young widow and mother with IRS liens. She put on the gown and went out and plugged cigars AND learned tax law. Oh and was extremely hot to boot!
