@FabioThePianist I agree. This (and his fourth) are not played enough. Unfortunately, the fourth is sometimes dismissed as a novelty because it's for left hand, but it is melodically and harmonically very inventive (of course--it's Prokofiev).

The Hi-Lo's (Gene Puerling) must have been paying attention to Torme & the Mel-Tones. Nice, close chords with perfect intonation. Torme was the best.

I agree with those who have observed that the intonation on this performance is a bit off (both orchestra and Maisky). Some of the final cadenzas were far off the mark. Surprising, for musicians of this calibre...

Exactly true. My good friend Arthur was a principal VeeJay records (with Ewart Abner and others), and acquired the rights to this. Part of the package that came with it was the Beatles. VeeJay was first to release their singles in the U.S.
