About this user
Named after the famous club from the 60s, Ports Of Call is a collaboration of great friends and talented artists. Their musical style ranges from soft acoustic groove to upbeat rock/reggae/ska, and in between you can hear influences from the likes of Toots & the Maytals, Pearl Jam, NoFX, Pink Floyd, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Founding members Chris, Greg, and Andrew have been playing together in various music projects since their high school days. Throughout their years of playing and writing together they have developed an intimate musical kinship allowing them to diversify themselves and experiment using all of their musical influences.
Its 1966-67; The Toronto Maple Leafs win their last Stanley Cup. The victory partys held in the citys most famously swank, Rat Pak club of the age. Cigar girls swirl around and Lord Stanleys silver brazened cup sits perched in the middle of a table flanked by hockey legends Tim Horton, Johnny Bower, Frank MahovolichChampagne is popped as the team sips their glory inside a legendary restaurant called Ports of Call; a club owned by the grandfather of band member Greg Scott.
Formed in mid 2006, Ports Of Call is a collaboration of great friends and talented artists. Their musical style ranges from soft acoustic groove to upbeat rock/reggae/ska, and in between you can hear influences from the likes of Toots & the Maytals, Pearl Jam, NoFX, Pink Floyd, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Founding members Chris Smeathers, Greg Scott, and Andrew Perrins have been playing together in various music projects since their high school days. One project that sticks out in their history is P.M.S. (Poor Motivational Syndrome), a punk/ska group which had a profound impact on the Toronto punk scene in the mid nineties. During this venture they released 1 full length CD, 2 EPs, and got to play with the likes of Marilyns Vitamins, Sum 41, Nerf Herder, and Real Big Fish. Throughout their years of playing and writing together they have developed an intimate musical kinship allowing them to diversify themselves and experiment using all of their musical influences. Recent additions to the group, Sandy Falconi and Deiren Masterson have added to the already great sonic fusion-taking place. Sandy, a great guitar player and very creative individual, joined in early 2007 where only after 2 practices he played his first gig with the band. He has consistently demonstrated his outstanding ability to not only learn the songs, but to apply his own uniqueness and bring the songs to the next level. Deiren Masterson, a multi-talented master on his own, was the latest member to join the group. Deiren brings to the table his outstanding ability to add sonic flare and melody where no one thought possible. A piano, organ, and guitar player, singer/song writer, and filmmaker, Deiren is a great asset to the band and a welcome comrade.
With their engineer / drummer Chris, Ports Of Call have been able to establish a comfortable home base complete with a recording studio. By incorporating their talents and technology, the band has been able to apply themselves musically on a whole new level, bringing new instruments to the table such as organs, pianos, accordions and orchestral instruments. The convenience of having a recording studio at their disposal has been an immense help in the bands success, brining them to the point where are ready to launch their career in full swing.
