I began doing basic cue repairs on my own cues around 1995 because I didn't know any other way to get a tip or adjust the weight. In 1998, I met Ted Harris at a Camel Pro Tour Stop in Denver, who was doing cue repair w/ a 'Porper Model B Q-Lathe'. Ted Harris is a Master Cuemaker, one of the good guys!
Since then, I began using tipping machines (tried them all) but didn't know that metal lathes were such a big equation in cue building and repairs. I learned from books, DVD's, tapes, and forums, networking w/ cue builders, other repair men. Joined International Cuemakers Assn. in '08 and asked lots of ? of a lot of very knowledgeable people in the industry....got some answers.
Still, I learn and share w/ others all the time, nor mind giving my thoughts about pool or pool cue related anything!
I love my wife, family and friends and all things related to pocket billiards. The games are challenging enough w/ perfect equipment but fall short without, so it's important to have, at least, a tip tool, good chalk, a case and cue that fits your style and friends who can play and learn with you. Competition is always a good thing but having fun with the game is important! Play pool! The sport of a lifetime!
