It seems to take German /Austrian conductors to get the most from Beethoven (Kleiber, von Karajan, Klemperer, Furtwangler, Bohm, etc.) .This is no exception.

Great performance. It has the energy and drive that Beethoven demands .I've always
preferred the Von Karajan recording from the early 1960's with Fritz Wunderlich, but this is right up there.

Beautiful animals and a beautiful and great pianist. The composer was not bad either. This is a nice escape from the wasted lives you read about in the tabloids and newspapers every day.

I first heard her play last night on NPR's Performance Today. It was the "Emperor" with Paavo in Bonn. I got in the middle of the performance and thought I was hearing Argerich. It was Helene, with the same drive and excitement. Then I listened to the Beethoven Fourth with Eschenbach on YouTube. ...

This recording reminds me of my old LP with Rudolph Serkin and Leonard Bernstein with the New York Phil of many years ago. It still is one of my treasures. The Choral Fantasy is rarely played and to me is one of Beethoven's masterpieces, as he was experimenting for the Ode to Joy.

Outstanding. She plays it just like Beethoven would. This is supposed to be a showpiece that's written to get your juices flowing. That's what it does. She and Christoph give a drive and momentum to this piece that brings out the best in the score.
One of Verdi's great melodies. As great as Mirusa is, you should hear Tebaldi.
