I have found Equate anti-cavity mouthwash greatly reduces occurrence of canker sores. It seems to work best when used with L-lysine. You can get it at Wal-Mart and it's inexpensive.

What I like about floating thumb is that you have control over the time between each note. Also, it makes using the open strings much easier.
