My favorite shows are the PolyRhythmic Safe Smiles open mic, every Tuesday 10:30 pm at Trace (3714 N. Clark, Chicago) and Poetry Night at Weeds (1555 N. Dayton) every Monday at 10 pm. Reality distorts my perception of TV. I wish they would show more repeats of old Friday Night Club episodes. That show rocked.
Music:
The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Radiohead, and a couple other bands that don't suck.
Books:
I find it humorous when people refer to themselves as 'Nietzscheans.' Better a buffoon than a saint! My friends Nick and Lucy just turned me on to Jeanette Winterson's 'The Passion.' It is the type of book you figure you'll read for a couple minutes just to make yourself drowsy, and then suddenly it's 5:00 am and you still can't put it down. I dislike most other modern fiction. Prefer poetry, paranoid sci-fi (i.e. Lovecraft, Dick, Ballard), and the classics (Dickens, Dostoyevsky, plus some names that don't start with 'D'). I don't wear vests.
