The 'Rock the Block' Festival, on Saturday May 6, 2006, boasted 5 hours of non-stop music, from rock and hip-hop to acoustic and electronic pop, as well as the Blackscreen Indigenous film-series.
The festival was put on to raise money to refurbish a community dance studio at the Tony Mundine gym, and played host to well known acts such as Wire MC and Andorra, as well as nationally recognised acts like Combat Wombat and Ozi Batla, from the Herd.
Other acts included Indigenous acoustic musician James Henry, Tribal Ashes, the Urban Guerillas, Jesse Morris and the Project, Gisele Scales and Shimmer.
The festival also included the Australian Film Commission's Blackscreen film series, including a wonderful documentary on Sydney's original Black theater, from the 70's, and a number of moving and beautifully shot recent productions, such as 'Green Bush' featuring David Page.

A unique and original production exploring the concept of family diversity, staged at CERES www.ceres.org.au from January 25th - 29th at 2:30pm.
Written, acted, directed and produced by qualified primary and high school teachers, the play aims to break through the stereotypes and present a more balanced perspective of what constitutes a family.
Through the sharing of Australian books and personal stories, games, songs and art the audience is treated to a light-hearted, funny, and inspiring experience that promotes inclusion.
Matilda's Project, created by Danny Gibbins, is directed by Yma Zammit Ross in association with Joel Beasant. This team worked together on Beasant's highly successful production of MILL BOYS in September 2011.
Like Mill Boys, Matilda's Project is a production built around community involvement. While the demographics for both productions are different, the creative team will once again collaborate with the Collingwood Men's Shed to put the production on.
Matilda's Project is unlike any other event you will find in the Midsumma Festival. Innovative and thought provoking, it will leave you smiling.
