**My 2nd release, "Elegant Simplicity", is now available! This time around, it's a whopping 42 tracks of solo Native American-style flute music featuring a total of 32 different flutes for 2 hours and 15 minutes of listening pleasure. Scroll to the bottom & click on the album cover to listen & purchase. You can by the 2-CD version and/or download it at both CD Baby and Bandcamp, and you'll also find the downloadable version it at amazon.com, Rhapsody, Reverbnation, Napster, and a whole host of other places. My 1st CD, "Under Watchful Skies", is also obtainable at both these and other sites.
Hello! My name is Allen Bruce Ray, but please call me Bruce. I come from northeast Ohio & have lived & worked in South Korea off & on for nearly 15 years mainly as a university English teacher. This channel contains video of improvisations and songs on Native American-style flutes that I collect and play. Although I've only been playing the flute since March 2007, music has been a part of me since a very early age, and for whatever reason, it all just seems to happen naturally. I mostly try to play in interesting places such as tunnels (for the acoustics), temples, mountains, fields, and desert plains (for the scenery). Not being terribly photogenic, I tend to focus the camera on my hands so that other would-be players can benefit from seeing what I'm doing. There are no jealously-guarded secrets here! I truly hope this helps others find their way on the NAF. The majority of the clips are spontaneous improvisations of me using (okay, showing off) my wide assortment of Native American-style flutes. The web addresses of all makers whose flutes I play in any particular video are always included, so I recommend that you visit their sites and check out what they have to offer. Despite any impressions you may get from my sometimes far-away and serious-looking gaze, I'll have you know that it's incredibly therapeutic, fun, and exhilarating to play these remarkably simple instruments. The notes and rhythms just seem to spill out every time I pick up one of them. I wish for these clips to bring you much joy and peace because my heartfelt desire is to spread the love and healing power of the Native American flute far and wide. Discussions about this wonderful instrument are always welcome. I will never stop encouraging everyone to play it because it sounds beautiful from the first note you make, it requires no previous musical knowledge or skill, and it's extremely easy to learn. In short, the flute opens up endless paths to personal rewards. These videos are offered up to you as the in-the-moment expression, warts & all, of my spirit and the attitude of gratitude I have for just being alive and well on this good Earth. I welcome any and all communications that you have. Incidentally, my user name "piri ajeoshi" (pronounced "PEE-dee ah-juh-see") means "flute guy" in Korean. It's what some Korean kids have called me because they've often seen me hiking with a backpack full of flutes!
