@moderndisco p.s. There were 15MC9's. The last Nth American coaches for Australia for Ansett Pioneer. Greyhound Australia had 8v71 powered Eagle 05's with 4 or 5spd manual transmissions. Later 6v92T Eagle 10's were bought with Allison Autos. OK for highway running but not for snow country

The Aussie MC9's had 6V92T engines coupled to 5spd Fuller stick. Denning, the Aussie coach builder at the time used 8V71 engines coupled to the 5spd Fuller stick. They went like rockets and there was always the right gear to have as it wasn't so gappy as the 4spd Spicer Dana gearboxes were. Fully loaded and high revs in 3rd but 4th is too high. The Spicer Dana gearboxes had one advantage: once in 1st gear you only had 3 shifts till you were in 4th (top gear)

The 8V71 with 5spd Fuller is quite a combination. Better spaced gearing than with the 4speed Dana. Denning here downunder in Oz used this combination. Ansett Pioneer had MC9's with 6V92T and the 5spd Fuller. Their MC7's and MC8's had the 8V71 4spd Dana. Bulletproof but too much gap between ratios.
The slimy whitehall bureaucrat. The classic line yelled at him by Mr.Porter the managing director: You make people like that!!" Pity the bureaucrat wasn't next to one bomb when it detonated.
