In search of the Shallow Bay
About Me:

It's probably pretty obvious, but I'm more or less obsessed with film. I have a particular affinity for thrillers, even though I have yet to put one up. I have an average ratio of something like 15:1; 15 test shorts for every one regular short. It's kind of annoying, I know, but it's important to me to figure out technique before I try to apply it. Sorry, but I'm after quality, not quantity. I'll only upload the shorts that are at least halfway interesting (most are not.) You might notice, in watching what I have, that my effects are neither frequently used nor magnificent. This is because my computer simply can't take a heavy duty software like AE or any version of Vegas Pro. It used to annoy me, but now I'm ok with it. Instead of relying on cool effects, I now have to depend on cinematography to compensate and impress. (This is part of why I like thrillers.)
Basically, this is a long winded spiel on my love of film. I love film. (I also adore writing, in case you couldn't tell.)

FAQ's (So don't ask!)

Q: What software do you use?
A: Currently, I work with Vegas Platinum 9, and though I'd love to work with AE or Pro 10, my computer doesn't support it.

Q: Where do you get your blood, muzzle flashes, etc.?
A: The Action Essentials 2 pack from Videocopilot.net

Q: What type of camera do you use?
A: Panasonic Lumix FZ35, shoots at 720p; 60fps. For the amazing low price, I would definitely recommend it.

Q: Where do you get your sound effects?
A: I have a massive sound effects library on iTunes.

Q: Only Pro versions of Vegas can change lighting selectively. How do you do your lighting?
A: It's a complicated process, but put simply, I use the spotlight tool.

Projects I would like to pursue:
1. An anti-war game PSA. (I'm totally anti-war game.)
2. A short about the real mechanics of sniping
3. I'd love to try a wee bit of suspense in a film
4. Recreating scenes from Casino Royale (I learn best from hands-on activity, so recreating scenes is an effective way for me to hone my technique)
5. An abstract short (backed by RJD2, perhaps?)
6. A short comedy about a world-wide secret teenage espionage game
7. A film about a relative of mine who fought and died in WWII (this won't come for years, because I want it to be the best it can- it's a tribute, not just a film)
8. Whatever else pops in my head.

If you are interested in participating in any of the above ideas, and know me personally, (i.e. we've shaken hands or been in the same room- you know who you are) send me an email or text, and I can start figuring something out. (Don't volunteer for #7, I need adults.) Thanks.
