Hi, Im Alan from San Francisco (USA - now), Melbourne (Australia - before) and Singapore (way before).
Im a self-taught gigging pianist who learns songs directly by hearing and then writing my own alphabetical notes. Its an amazingly effective and common-sense system thats worked very well for me over the past 30 odd years.
I have the freedom and ability to learn ANY song I like even if a music sheet is unavailable - simply by playing back the song, and breaking down (and writing) the melody, bass and chords. Like anything else, this system may not be for everyone.but I do believe it is for MANY especially those who already have a sense for music timing (talent?), some piano playing knowledge, and guitarists-turning-pianists (because I also use chords), etc.

This is a skill Id really like to gradually impart via tutorials at my PIANOPAD YouTube site.
Some RULES of this tutorial site:
-As I dont ready conventional music, I dont have music sheets to share. I do have alphabetical notes, but its a real hassle to scan and email them. If you want to Paypal me $3.00 to email a song sheet, I will do it, but I cant guarantee youll understand my notes !!
- You dont need to tell me Im playing a song in a key thats different from the original song I really dont care - (like many other omusicians) I play whatever key Im comfortable with. If I wanted to, I can easily transpose the entire song to ANY other key, so its No Big Deal.
-As Snow White once told a dwarf, If you have nothing nice to say, dont say nothing at all. Its hard enough to spend time in sharing knowledge - lets see YOU share as well and do something better.
-With the above said, I DO WELCOME suggestions of ways to better explain my tutorials.
