This is NERVE-WRECKING! When was this recorded? Is this from Martha's 2001 Carnegie recital or an earlier recording? It's very clean as opposed to other recordings of that recital, where the nuances are lost in the hiss.

@mymusic11ful Not necessarily..... Rach's interpretation of his own beautiful 2nd concerto (my favorite of the set) leaves me underwhelmed. The work is just so much more beautiful and full of lovely nuances that seem to be absent from his performance... it's almost like he's holding back in awe o...

I can also hear the voices separated out more clearly, so it really helps me appreciate the genius of Beethoven's writing, but the performance of the transcription is very tame in my opinion - the vigor and vitality of Beethoven's orchestral score is lost, though this interpretation has an intere...

@honekawasujiemon Martha knows both parts of the La Valse. Partitisa89 is right in that a video made in their (i.e.. Martha and Freire) youth has Martha playing the identical Primo part but sitting on the other side of the stage, but I think she plays the opposite part in the video with Sergei Ti...

This video has been sped up, because the actual version with the Verbier Festival Orch is also on YT and the tempo is slower (the normal tempo at which Argerich plays this), but I still love the heart-thumping effect of this one, and I'm sure Argerich really can do it at this tempo if the conduct...

This is so interesting! I would've never imagined that he'd play it like this.. it's so different that anything I've heard... can't get over that part. I've always loved Prokofiev as a pianist (whatever I've heard on YT that is) and he's one of the few composers I like playing their own pieces. (...

Thanks for uploading... this is rather different from Gilels' own recording with the Berlin Phil and Eugene Jochum so really interesting to hear how he modifies his own reading according to the orchestra and conductor he's collaborating with. One thing's constant that lovely, warm Gilels tone!

Would someone re-post the version with the Berlin Philharmonic and Eugene Jochum... that's my personal favorite.
ok I definitely prefer the argerich/rostropovich approach in this movement. Although this is beautifully played (obviously, such great musicians), I want the velocity and the impetuosity of this movement, which is compromised at this slower tempo
