I see your point, Barrister. She does look intense. Her mannerisms remind me a bit of Isaac Stern (with more movement).

Perry Como, a confident, yet humble man, was immensely popular with the public. He made countless recordings, was active in nightclubs, had his own TV show for 16 years and TV specials for 28 years after that (into his 80's), and was in demand as an emcee. His voice could cover 2 octaves flawles...

Heifetz was making home movies in the mid 1920s, or having somebody make them for him. It's possible this is from his collection. Heifetz was good friends with Samuel Goldwyn, whose studio wasn't far away, and silent film star Florence Vidor was his wife at the time.

@Croonr1 The soloist does sound like Gurney Bell. It's unlikely that the studio would have hired a group for that short of a bit.
Back then, studios would have used in-house first, then whoever was available. They would have wanted a good soloist (Bell, Thurl Ravenscroft, Marty Sperzell, Bill ...

Heifetz was an outstanding violinist but a horrible teacher. Except for Carol, he was far too harsh on all of them.
I knew Erick Friedman very well. I conducted some of his concerts before the auto accident ended his career. He said that Heifetz was too demanding and not tolerant enough. Th...

@fernandofariajunior She can play it however she pleases, and so can Kissin and anybody else. Frankly, I hate this performance. But it isn't played this way because she wasn't able to play it differently. Anybody who believes Martha doesn't have the tools doesn't know any better.

@marcgv6 Do you suppose he meant "These particular girls can do much better", Mr. Clueless? Perhaps you should use your brain before running your mouth. Barrister has been supportive of these two in many of their other videos. If he's not lavishing praise, he must have a reason.

@TomBarristerX The year would explain why it sounds the way it does. Mr. Gibson is well known for his expertise in Sibelius.
Of course we're all entitled to our opinions. I think that the right hand is horribly muddled and uneven.
