He was trying hard to keep it flying, you can see his left wing briefly stall and then it starts to drop and then he commits, he should have seen that he would clear the shore and then commit to an emergency landing where he could have controlled his decent a little better and had a MUCH softer l...

The guy in the edge probably always slips, so he can see the runway a little better on approach, you'll see alot of pitts pilots do that, or anyone who flys an aircraft with limited approach visibility
