Can you calculate and report the embodied energy costs for your building? Generally this means the energy and inputs to make a new "green" sustainable building are quite substantial and the savings from energy efficiencies often take decades just to offset the carbon footprint of construction. LEED certification itself means almost nothing in terms of environmental benefits. A nice efficient new building often has a much larger environmental footprint than refurbishing an existing building, or sharing space with on of the nearby universities.

I would be more impressed if your PR mentioned calculations of the embodied energy costs. A nice video, but it would be more compelling if you provided a true assessment of the project's environmental impact.

beautiful video, beautiful project, I love that our industrial city is working to be at the forefront of sustainability but my only detraction was from the quote at the end "Imagine the beauty of humanity living in harmony with nature." This quote emerges from the paradigm that humans are separate from nature and that we're striving to get along with it, but the permaculture paradigm, the paradigm that it seems like phipps is promoting and supporting, is that we ARE nature. Humans are as much nature as flowers. We are nature so we don't need to imagine what it would be like if we were to live with nature. Humans are nature, plastic bottles are nature, cell phones, cars, you name it; "We are nature, working."

The videos are excellent!!! I work for DSGW Architects in Duluth, Minnesota and recently visited Phipps...it is exciting to see the integrated approach, which our firm uses as well, being used in the design of this living building!!! Well done videos...keep up the good work! E.Brandvik, Executive Admin
