We're a band, we make videos too. Here's a bit about us:
After a whirlwind entrance onto the music scene in 2008, which yielded two albums, three Top 5 radio hits, a No. 1 music video as well as multiple tours and international appearances, pop/rock band Philmont is back for another round with its latest creative offering, The Transition EP.
Appropriately titled in light of recent personal and professional changes, the album is a testament to Philmont's growth over the last two years. "More than ever before, we've realized just how fleeting life and the things of this world are," says Scott Taube, the band's vocalist. "And that sense of urgency is precisely what we wanted to convey on The Transition EP. We're interested in singing about what's eternal, what really matters in life, and that's our relationship with God."
But for Philmont, which is comprised of Taube, Josiah Prince (guitar/keys), Justin Sams (guitar), Josh Guion (bass) and Jeremi Hough (drums), a captivating message isn't complete without an equally captivating soundtrack, and fans can expect the same unique brand of high-energy rock songs, coupled with a contagious live show, that have come to define the band.
With an anthemic, sit-up-and-take-notice sound reminiscent of contemporaries like Jimmy Eat World and Relient K, The Transition EP, produced by longtime friend Matthew Arcaini, instantly commands the listener's attention as Philmont tackles relevant and compelling subject matter.
Already making a memorable first impression with catchy debut single "You Will Remain," a bold treatise that effectively sets the stage musically and thematically, Philmont has plenty more tricks up its proverbial sleeve. The project's diverse selection of six tracks including "I Am," "Closer" and "The Alchemist" provide an engaging snapshot of the band's maturing artistry.
Also showcasing an inventive, forward-thinking spirit, Philmont allowed its fans to be part of the process by helping partially finance this independent endeavor through Kickstarter.com, an interactive website that serves as a financial platform for musicians, filmmakers and journalists hoping to make an impact on the world through artistic projects.
"I was absolutely blown away by the support of our fans," says Taube. "We love to hang out with the kids before and after the shows, and we want to be solid role models who encourage them in their own faith walks. Their contribution of more than $4000 is a validation to us that our ministry is truly making an impact."
Inspired by their loyal fanbase, personal spiritual journey and an insatiable love for making music together, Philmont is eager to share what the band feels is its most compelling CD to date.
"From the moment we first started writing, there was a definite excitement about the project, and I think that joy will be apparent to all who listen," says Josiah. "Above all, the songs on The Transition EP say that in spite of all the darkness and the sin, we're redeemed through Christ's death on the Cross. And having that knowledge deep in your heart makes you want to live your life differently. Intentionally."
